Tom Yum Goong (Spicy Thai Soup w/ Shrimp)
Tom Yum Goong (Spicy Thai Soup w/ Shrimp)
The words "tom yam" are derived from two Thai words. Tom refers to the boiling process, while yam refers to a Thai spicy and sour salad. Indeed, tom yum is characterised by its distinct hot and sour flavours, with fragrant spices and herbs generously used in the broth. The basic broth is made of stock and fresh ingredients such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, limejuice, fish sauce, and crushed chili peppers.
This is a delicious Thai soup with shrimp as a main ingredient. So if you are not into seafood, jump ahead to the next dish! For all of you seafood lovers, you’re having a great start into your Thai food experience. This is a clear soup with lemongrass and is often seen as a hot and sour soup. So if you are not into spicy, don’t forget to ask for a “mild” version.
Tom yum goong is consists of coconut milk, mushroom, ginger, lemongrass, lime leaves, and the main ingredient is shrimp of course. Because its name “Tom yum goong” and goong means shrimp. I saw many foreigners eat tom yum goong in the wrong way. It’s true that Tom yum goong is soup, but it’s not like tomato soup or corn soup that you can eat by itself. When we eat Tom yum goong we should eat with rice otherwise, the flavor will be too overwhelm.
This shrimp is so BIG!
